  • Constellation Chicago 3111 North Western Avenue Chicago, IL, 60618 United States (map)

Physics for Listeners: a Composers’ Concert is both a a commissioned concert series and recording project that presents new work from Chicago composers practicing diverse traditions, approaches, and techniques. This concert will shine a light on the beginning stages of each composition as the ensemble runs the early sketches of each composers’ vision.

In 2018, Homeroom began work with ZRL, an improvising trio of Chicago musicians proficient at multiple musical traditions as well as working with traditional notation, graphic scores, and improvisation. From there, Homeroom and ZRL commissioned four composers to share in the collaborative process: Ben Lamar GayOHMME (Macie Stewart & Sima Cunningham), Sam Scranton, and Ayanna Woods. Hailing from various compositional traditions including jazz, contemporary classical, rock, and experimental improvisation, each composer will create works for ZRL to perform, record, and release on 12" vinyl.
