PHYSICS FOR LISTENERS: A COMPOSERS' CONCERT
Homeroom’s Spring Semester 2012 culminates with two very special presentations of brand new pieces from some of Chicago’s most exciting young composers. Physics for Listeners: a Composers’ Concert brings composers and musicians from across Chicago’s jazz/improv and contemporary classical communities into dialogue and collaboration. Homeroom commissioned new works from 6 composers, who are also accomplished musicians, to write for a single ensemble made of the composers themselves. By inviting the participants to act as both composers and ensemble members, Homeroom has been able to encourage a level of experimentation and collaboration that explores the spaces between traditional and experimental compositional practices.
The composers include The composers include Matthew Dotson: guitar; Tim Daisy: drums and percussion; Jason Raynovich: cello; Katherine Young: bassoon; Tobin Summerfield: bass and guitar; and Dan Mohr: piano & voice.
The debut performance takes place at one of Chicago’s most beloved small venues – The Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia) on Sunday, June 3rd at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $12 and can be ordered directly from the Hideout by following thislink.
