Local cassette label Teen River has only been active since late 2011 but has already amassed almost 80 releases, evidencing the undeniable health of Chicago’s underground music scene. Three acts from this scene will be presented by the label this Tuesday at the Hungry Brain.
POTIONS is the solo electronic project belonging to Distractions front man Tom Owens in which kaleidoscopic textures play against various poly-rhythms, creating a droning propulsive groove.
The Humboldt Park duo King Tut’s Tomb owes no small debt to early Ariel Pink and other practitioners of fuzzy, analog cassette mastery.
RXM Reality is the moniker of Chicago’s Michael Reality. His digital deconstructions of traditional instruments like banjo as well as found sound hypnotize as they agitate.
