Songwriter Showcase featuring Aleks Eva and Andrea Bauer

Homeroom brings together two of Chicago’s most compelling female songwriters in Aleks Eva (Aleks Tomaskewska) of Magic Key and Aleks and the Drummer and Andrea Bauer of Touched by Ghoul and Coupleskate will be our featured songwriters.

Aleks Eva’s songs are emotionally dynamic, shifting between moments of soft intensity to rushes of booming intimacy and back again. Aleks is force live, and can leave the listeners gasping for breath. Read an excellent interview of Aleks Tomaskewska by Jessica Hopper in the Chicago Tribune here.

For years, Andrea Bauer has stood out as one of Chicago’s strongest and most talented front-women. Her melodies are consistently soft and beautiful even as guitars and drums crash behind. Bauer’s voice can move from seething to ennui with the slightest change in inflection. Her superb guitar playing often fiercely drives the music, but sometimes, its counterpoint simply cushions and gently frames her voice.
