Song Poems 101 with Ed Crouse
Come explore the weird and nerdy corner of pop music history that is the Song Poem. The practice of setting amateur poems and lyrics to music for a fee goes back even further than recorded music. Multi-talented writer and performer Ed Crouse will take us to the Song Poem’s heyday when, in the back of any cheap magazine, you could find the opportunity have your poetry made into a real vinyl record. The second segment will feature Crouse performing YOUR Song Poems live with the Tiny Cover Band serving as backup. To submit a song poem or vote for other song peoms, go to songpoemnight.wordpress.com
Ed Crouse is a musical gadfly, activist and semi-retired journalist living in Humboldt Park. He has written about films, music and leather bars for Film Comment, the Village Voice and the San Francisco Bay Guardian and has been in bands such as Logjam, Strip Minors, The Piltdowns and The Continentals.
