With a career spanning from Chicago’s South Side to Interstellar Space, Sun Ra (born Herman Poole Blount) was an immensely prolific composer, writer, entrepreneur, and pioneer of an aesthetic that would become known as afro-futurism.

Writer, musician, and gallerist John Corbett will give a survey of Sun Ra’s expansive terrestrial career, drawing from his impressive personal archive of Sun Ra music, art, and artifacts. Following will be a discussion of the influence of Sun Ra’s artistic legacy in Chicago and beyond.
