Pal-entine's Day: A Look at our Non-profit Participants
Homeroom is excited to have several Chicago non-profits join our Pal-entine's Day celebration of friendship. Hosted by our own Seth Vanek, we plan to play our version of Friendly Feud with teams from CHIRP Radio, Elastic Arts, The Nightingale Cinema and Spudnik Press Cooperative. Who will win?
Now in its 12th year, Elastic Arts has presented over 1300 events across a wide range of mediums. One of the most interesting and welcoming venues in the city, Elastic’s Logan Square space is host to several events each week and curates several ongoing series. Elastic is the type of grassroots, artist-led organization that seamlessly promotes contemporary art exhibitions in their gallery one day and provides space for a concert featuring post-John Cage compositions the next. Elastic’s current series include concerts for many types of music lovers: Improvised Music, Hip-Hop, Electro-Acoustic and a Songwriter Showcase. The biggest project Elastic has embarked on thus far is the wide-ranging website, ChicagoMusic.org. A “ hub for Chicago’s vibrant musical communities, ” the site presents hundreds of listings, reviews, interviews and other content shown through the eyes of local Chicagoans.
