Interview with Andrea Bauer of Touched by Ghoul and Coupleskate

This Friday, April 27th Andrea Bauer of Coupleskate and Touched by Ghoul will be featured along with Aleks Eva at Homeroom’s Songwriter Showcase and Open Mic at Elastic Arts (2830 N Milwaukee.) Andrea was nice enough to give Homeroom a brief interview and talk about her songwriting.

1. When did you first starting writing music?
The first song I ever wrote was on my dad’s acoustic when I was
twelve. It was bad. Like, really bad. And it was heavily Guns N’ Roses
influenced because I constantly listened to Appetite for Destruction
on cassette through my lavender boom box. I’m pretty sure the lyrics
were about some wayward girl going to a second location with a
degenerate dude and that situation was not going to work out in her
favor.

Sunday Soup is back!

In 2007, a Logan Square gallery called InCUBATE started a series of collective micro-granting events called Sunday Soup. Artists and curators would gather at the storefront gallery and share a huge pot of soup made by an artist that needed funding for a project. Over the meal, the artist would describe the details of the project and its budget to his or her dining companions/benefactors. The model turned out to be a great way to share resources and build support for local cultural projects – so much so that it is now being used by outfits large and small in over 60 cities around the world.

On May 6th, InCUBATE is teaming up with Roots and Culture to bring Sunday Soup back to the Chicago arts scene. In a particular time when crowd-based funding models are at risk of becoming too widespread and impersonal, Sunday Soup gives artists, curators, and patrons a way to actually connect with and over the projects that they are passionate about, all while eating a healthy meal with other creative people.

If you want to apply to be considered for a Sunday Soup grant or if you’d like to attend as a guest/patron (at a cost of $15), you can find all of the information you need at sundaysoupchicago.org

The next Sunday Soup event is:
Sunday, May 6th
6-9

Homeroom will bring Physics for Listeners to South Shore High School in June

Homeroom is thrilled to announce that South Shore High School has invited us to perform Physics for Listeners: a Composers’ Concert for their 200 music students. The event will be an opportunity for the students to discover new music by young Chicago jazz and contemporary composers. And it will be an opportunity for the composers to share their music with the next generation of music makers.

Homeroom is able to bring Physics for Listeners to South Shore High School in large part due to a generous donation from the Cliff Dwellers Foundation.

Spring Semester

There are no upcoming events!

But stay tuned, we might just book the best show ever.
